- Technology
Liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) has excellent cleaning properties and dissolves stains as well as traditional
dry cleaning solvents. However, CO2 is safe to handle. It is non-toxic, non-flammable and odorless.
It does not produce hazardous waste or emissions that require special disposal.
Liquid CO2 based dry cleaning technology has been in development since 1998 and is now the best method
available for cleaning delicate clothing.
- Gentler on your clothes
Unlike all the other cleaning systems, CO2 does not require drying with heat. As a result, it is
far gentler on fabrics and garments cleaned with CO2 will last longer and feel softer. Additionally,
without heat, stains are not set and stain removal is still possible after treatment
Broader array of fabrics
Liquid CO2 is desirable as a cleaning medium because it cleans effectively, is very benign and can be
safely used on a broad array of fabrics. Leather, suede, fur, Gore Tex®, sequins, down, and many other
fabrics can safely be cleaned with CO2, but do not hold up well with other solvents.
- Environmentally friendly
CO2 is the gas that all animals exhale and that plants breathe in. It's the same gas that bubbles up in
soft drinks and beer. CO2 is part of the natural cycle of the planet. The CO2 used in the process is
captured as a by-product of existing industrial processes, thereby utilizing exhaust that would otherwise
be released into the atmosphere.
- The Process
Clothes are loaded into the drum of the machine and the door is locked Ambient air is extracted and liquid
CO2 fills the drum.
Clothes are agitated by the turning of the drum and by jets within the drum.
Detergent is injected.
Clothes are rinsed with clean liquid CO2.
